The National Institute
for Aviation Research (NIAR), located at Wichita State University, is
a premier aviation research organization that has gained national and
international recognition for its programs and laboratories. NIAR is engaged
in basic and applied research, testing and certification. The city of
Wichita is a home of major aerospace industry, namely Boeing IDS, Hawker
Beechcraft, Cessna Aircraft Company, Bombardier-Learjet, Spirit Aerosystems
and many aviation suppliers.
Currently open positions:
NDT Instructior and Research Engineer
NIAR is seeking a candidate for the position NDT Instructor and Research Engineer. To be considered for the position, applicants must provide a resume and three professional related references. In addition, the applicant must complete an on-line application. Deadline for receipt of applications is September 19, 2008. Offers of employment are contingent upon completion of a satisfactory criminal background check as required by the Board of Regents policy.
The candidate will be responsible for interacting with the aviation industry to understand their NDT training needs and develop the appropriate training curriculum, purchase equipment, and hire additional instructors. The candidate will lead the NDT training group and will instruct, test, and certify trainees as appropriate. The candidate will use industry input as a basis for researching innovative NDT methods to assist industry and government agencies with advanced NDT processes.
Required Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident at the time of employment.
- A Bachelor of Science Degree in an accredited engineering discipline or equivalent work experience.
- Must have the capability to interact effectively with students, faculty and staff.
- working experience with a broad range of basic and advanced NDT technologies.
- Ability to provide students training and experience that is compliant with the National Aerospace Standard (NAS 410).
- Good presentation/teaching skills; knowledge to organize and present classroom exercises or on-the-job-training in accordance with approved outlines.
Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Aviation NDT experience in a production environment and with aircraft in service.
- Training experience in either an industry or academic setting.
- Supervisory experience.
- Qualifications for NAS 410 Level III’s in all following methods; UT, RT, ET, MT and PT.
