The procedure for applications through grants.gov

Wichita State University is already registered in grants.gov.

1..  The submission process involves downloading and saving the PureEdge Viewer (which is the program necessary to fill out a grants.gov application package) and the right application package from grants.gov, filling out the forms, attaching pdf files in the provided places, and submitting the packet with all the attached files to grants.gov.   ORA staff will need the CFDA number or other agency competition number to download the right package for you.  We will fill in the institutional information and assist with the preparation of the package.  The package is submitted by the ORA.

2.  It is important that the PI and the ORA staff are working on only one version of the grants.gov application packet.  After the ORA staff fill in the institutional information, they will send it to the PI for completing blank portions on forms and for attaching the required files in pdf format (biosketches, the proposal, budget justification, etc.)

3.  How to fill out the forms

The forms are in a list on the left side of the opening page.  Open each form by highlighting it and clicking on the "open" button at the bottom of the box; then fill it out.  Required areas are in yellow.  When the form is complete, move it to the right hand side using the arrows provided.

Do save your work frequently.  You will get a popup telling you that you have errors until all the required spaces and attachments are in place; save it anyway.

You might be working on the forms and not quite finished with, say, the project description or narrative, yet you are ready for Karlen to enter the budget for you.  Save the file; send it to Karlen; when she returns it, save it again to replace the old version.

When you think you are complete, click on the button at the top to check for errors.  The program will only show one error at a time.  Correct any errors or ask ORA staff for assistance.

When the PI has completed the required information and attached all files, (or has reached a point where he or she can release the file for a bit, the application packet can be sent to karlen.haury@wichita.edu for entry of the budget information.

The ORA will submit the proposal packet signed by David McDonald.

Grants.gov then assigns a number, checks the package for errors (usually missing files or data on forms). We receive an email notification (to Dave McDonald) at each of these steps.

The final step is for grants.gov to send the application to the sponsoring agency.

(Please see the webpage for NIH for special instructions for those applications.
