Resource Center.
Effective November
7, 2003, all federal agencies were required to post all funding
opportunities for discretionary grants and cooperative agreements to
Grants.gov FIND, within three
business days after full announcements had been released. Agencies are
requested to include information within 27 data
elements (e.g. funding opportunity number, estimated total funding,
and eligible applicants). Swab said that the posting of funding
opportunities within the Federal Register, in addition to the required
Grants.gov posting, would be at the discretion of each agency.
In addition to the
FIND mechanism on its Website, Grants.gov offers an email notification
service. An individual can choose to receive notification for any
announcement that has been issued by specifying an opportunity number, a
specific agency, specific interests, or eligibility groups. Or he or she
can receive notification of all grant opportunities as they become posted
on the Grants.gov Website. The e-mail notification service, however,
currently includes a disclaimer: “ This service is provided for
convenience only and does not serve as a guarantee of notification.
Subscribers to this list service are ultimately responsible for reviewing
the Federal Grant Opportunities site
for all information relevant to desired funding opportunities.”
The
Federal Register is the
official daily publication for Rules, Proposed Rules, and Notices of Federal agencies and
organizations, as well as Executive Orders and other Presidential Documents. Grant
announcements appear in this publication.
The
Commerce
Business Daily is issued by the U.S. Government Printing Office
(GPO). It lists notices of proposed government
procurement actions, contract awards, sales of government property, and other procurement
information. The GPO publishes a new edition of the Commerce Business Daily every business
day. Each edition contains approximately 500 to 1,000 notices; each notice appears
only once. To search for recent requests for proposals, click on the link
above; scroll down the page (or click on the link) to U.S. GOVERNMENT
PROCUREMENTS, SERVICES
and then click on the Class Code "A".
The Grant Resource Center (formerly the Office
of Federal Programs) sends daily notices of grant opportunities and deadlines to Emily
McReynolds and Carole Robarchek. You may search
their resources after obtaining the user ID and password for Wichita State University from
Emily or Carole.

Hints:
Each federal agency (and often each department or
division) is required by the Government Performance
and Results Act of 1993 to produce a strategic plan and evaluate how goals are met.
Your project must help the agency to achieve the goals stated in its
strategic plan.
Most private foundations have a mission statement or a
strategic plan (or both). Your project must assist your selected sponsor to achieve
its goals.
When you have determined that your project will be of interest
to a sponsor, and have developed a working approach or idea, do call the program manager or
other designated individual to tell them of your idea.
Call Emily McReynolds at 6803 or
Carole Robarchek at 6806 for assistance.
