Monkey River Town

In the event that a visit to Barranco is not possible, we usually visit the Creole fishing village of Monkey River Town at the mouth of the Monkey River.  This trip includes a trip by boat from Placencia to the mainland (we have seen dolphin and manatee) and a boat ride up the monkey river where wild life can be observed along the banks.  We can take a walk into a forest preserve leading to a colony of howler monkeys. Sometimes we stop at a sand bar for watermelon and a swim.   We tour the village as we hear about the history of the settlement and have lunch before making our journey back to Placencia.
