General Description: Wichita State University provides opportunities to participate in research and pursue advanced study in 54 master’s programs, one educational specialist program, nine doctoral programs, and two 1st professional degrees. The university is classified by the Carnegie foundation as a Doctoral/Research Intensive institution, annually granting approximately 28 doctoral degrees and more than 700 master’s degrees. Doctoral degrees are awarded in applied mathematics; chemistry; communication sciences and disorders; educational leadership; psychology; and in aerospace, electrical, industrial, and mechanical engineering. The university received over $41K in awards for research, training and service in fiscal year 2006.

It comprises the Colleges of Fine Arts (including music), Liberal Arts and Sciences, Business, Education, Engineering, and Health Professions. Wichita, the "Air Capital of the World", is home to the major manufacturing facilities of Boeing, Cessna, LearJet, Spirit and Raytheon Aircraft Companies. WSU has a total enrollment of 14,298 students (11,203 undergraduates and 3,095 graduate students). It has a large non-traditional student population: the average age of undergraduate students is 25. There are 1,197 international students (576 undergraduates and 621 graduates).
